About
The Lesotho Sports & Recreation Commission or LSRC was established by the Lesotho Sport & Recreation Act No.3 of 2002 It is the main government agency responsible for the development and coordination of sport and recreation in Lesotho. The LSRC has no direct involvement in the management of specific sports but works through National Sport Associations/Federations or NF’s that are directly responsible for the management of the different sporting codes.
LSRC is overseen by a Commission and Executive Committee comprised of representatives of its Member Associations.

Our mission is to inspire and facilitate development and growth of sport and recreation to a high level; to develop attractive and quality sport and recreation through sound and dynamic leadership; to ensure sustainable resource base and accessible facilities that meet international standards; and to embark on programmes and initiatives that ensure effective and efficient coordination of all sporting and recreation activities nationwide.

HISTORY
Sport was traditionally run and managed by the colonial era Lesotho Sports Association and comprised the sports of football and athletics. The Lesotho Sport Association was replaced by the Lesotho Sports Council through the Lesotho Sports Council Order No. 41 of 1970. During the period of the Lesotho Sports Council the number of sporting codes grew from just two to twenty-five and included taekwondo, boxing, tennis and darts amongst others.
The Lesotho Sports Council was later replaced by the Lesotho Sport & Recreation Commission in 2002 through the Lesotho Sport & Recreation Act No. 15 of 2002. Currently, the LSRC has twenty-seven member Associations which include table tennis, handball, cycling

Interim Chief Executive Officer
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for leading the organisation as it works. The office of the CEO is in charge of strategic and operational implementation of the Commission and Executive Committee’s decisions. It also ensure that the best structure and resources are available for sport development, performance and participation are available at all levels.

Development Department
The Development Department was set up in 2010 to serve as the LSRC’s specialised development and coordination office. It is the sports operational department of the LSRC and implements the LSRC’s Growth & Development Strategy.
The Department works with the National Sports Associations in designing development programs for the 27 sports in the country. It then works with the various working groups and advisory committees in overseeing their implementation which is carried out by the Associations themselves.

Administration
The Administration Department serves as the organisation main support team. It ensures that the organisation is serviced as smoothly and efficiently as possible to ensure that sport is in turn serviced in the quickest most efficient manner as possible. It handles the organisations human resource and procurement functions.

Finance
The Finance Department manages the LSRC’s incomes which are primarily from Government and ensures that as much funding is distributed to the member National Sports Associations. The Finance Department executes the LSRC’s financial accounting function.
